BOAT TRIPS - On Loch Ness take a relaxing cruise or try an exhilirating powerboat ride with pick-ups/drop-offs to other villages in the area where you can have a pub lunch or picnic or be dropped off with your bike and cycle back to Fort Augustus.
WHITE WATER RAFTING - And much, much more near Invergarry which is 7 miles south of Fort Augustus on the A82.
WALKS/CYCLING- Being set in the middle of the Great Glen Way there are plenty of places for walking and mountain biking, you will be spoilt for choice. There is an opportunity to accompany Clive and our dog on their evening walk around Fort Augustus to places of interest and beauty. Clive has a natural interest in wildlife and birds and knows the area very well.
GOLF COURSE - The local 9 hole golf course is open to visitors.
FISHING - Plenty of good opportunities for salmon or trout fishing, day permits available where necessary.
CASTLES - Fort Augustus is ideally situated for day trips to Urquhart Castle, Invergarry Castle, Eilean Donan Castle and Inverness Castle, all are between three-quarters to 2 hours away.
WILDLIFE/BIRDWATCHING - Good chance of seeing Roe, Sika and Red deer and if you are very lucky, Badgers, Otter or Pine Marten. Scarce birds nearby include Common Scoter, Black/Red Throated Diver, Slavonian Grebe, Peregrin Falcon, Buzzard, Dotteral and maybe even Golden Eagle or Red Kite. Tina even spotted and photographed a Scarlet Rosefinch .
RELAXING/EATING OUT - For a wee village there are some excellent places to eat out, many of the pubs have roaring log fires and in some, dogs are very welcome. Some folk are just as happy to buy some fish and chips or a picnic and sit by the canal watching the boats going by.
WEATHER - By packing t-shirts, jumpers, shorts, jeans, light/heavy waterproof, sturdy waterproof walking trainers and flip-flops you should be well prepared for our unpredictable weather...... AND you could get to wear them all in ONE day!! Large umbrellas are provided just in case.
